Colophon.
This site is constructed with deliberate simplicity. It is a document, not an application. What follows is a brief disclosure of its typographic and technical composition, provided in the tradition of printed books that include a colophon naming the type and the press.
The display typography is set in Fraunces, a variable serif designed by Phaedra Charles, Flavia Zimbardi, and David Jonathan Ross. Its optical size axis ranges from 9 to 144; its SOFT axis from 30 to 100; its WONK axis between 0 and 1 (the latter controlling the leaning letterforms that appear in the display size). The wordmark is set with WONK engaged. Body typography is set in IBM Plex Sans, designed at IBM by Mike Abbink and the Bold Monday team. Credential numerals and metadata are set in IBM Plex Mono from the same family. All three typefaces are distributed under the SIL Open Font License.
The palette draws from a small set of considered values: ivory (#FAF7F2) as the canvas, a deep money green (#1F4E3D) as the primary accent, a warm champagne (#C9A86A) for tertiary accents restricted to roughly three percent of any surface, and a soft ink (#1A1A1A) for body text in place of pure black. Vertical rhythm is locked to a 24-pixel baseline.
The site is hosted on a Linode virtual server and served by nginx. There is no tracking, no analytics beyond what the server’s own logs record, and no cookies. The site’s carbon footprint per page view is measured in fractions of a gram.
With gratitude to the typographers and engineers whose work makes sites like this one possible.
